Obituary

After living most of her life on her family's treasured homestead in Buncombe County, Betty Jean Calloway Robinson was escorted by the angels into the presence of her Lord and Savior on January 31, 2026 after a long battle with ALS. She had unwavering faith, never complaining about her condition. Her kind and compassionate nature led her to a life of service to others. She was a private duty caregiver for over twenty years, ten of which were spent at Deerfield Retirement. She nurtured her mother, brother, and grandson through life threatening medical conditions. She was generous and faithful to those she cared for. She was honest, never speaking ill of anyone and if you tried to get her to she would just smile. That beautiful smile was contagious, comforting, and soothing for whatever ailed you. Betty always gave a sincere smile and offered words of encouragement. She knew no stranger and spent countless hours engaged in delightful conversation. Those who knew her loved her and would agree that she had a big heart, full of love, and she walked in forgiveness. She enjoyed thrifting, spending time with family, was always up for any adventure, and cherished deeply her grandchildren. Betty especially loved riding up and down every road she came across, just to see where it went. She always knew her way around.

She is proceeded in death by her parents Charles and Mary Fox Calloway; two brothers James Smith and Steve Calloway; a beloved sister-in-law Theresa Foster Calloway, and two grandsons.

Left to cherish her memory is her devoted husband, Garard Oscar Robinson, who lovingly honored his vow to be with her until the end, her children Linda Gayle McClure (Barney "BJ") of Candler, Anna Marie Bloch Coleman (Eddie) of Marshall, Miranda Bloch of Mars Hill and Michael Bloch of Rockport, Indiana; five stepchildren, Dorothy "Dottie" Bloch, Jeania Bloch Downs, Heidi Honeycutt (Brandon), Joshua Robinson (Karen), and Caleb Robinson (Jennifer); three brothers Charles "Butch" Calloway (Linda), Daniel "Chick" Calloway (Linda), and Claude Calloway (Deborah) all of Weaverville; three surviving sisters, Sarah Smith Russell of Rutherfordton, Carolyn Plemmons (Rex) of Weaverville and Dorothy Moniz (Kirt) of Corpus Christi, Texas. She deeply cherished her 25 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held at 12:00 pm Saturday, February 7, 2026, in the Robbie Capps Memorial Chapel of Blue Ridge Funeral and Cremation Service. Pastor Ronnie Pittman and Reverend Ronnie Robinson will officiate. Burial will follow in the Calloway family cemetery, Weaverville. Serving as pallbearers will be Caleb Robinson, Michael Bloch, Barney McClure, David Painter, Eddie Coleman, Rex Plemmons, Charles "Butch" Calloway, and Mark "Chick" Calloway. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
