Betty Miller Whitt, 91, passed away after a brief illness on September 12, 2026. She was the daughter of the late David and Callie Nichols Miller. Betty grew up in Winston-Salem, where she met her husband to be, Glen "Dick" Whitt, who preceded her in death. She moved to the mountains at age 16, when they got married.

Betty is also preceded in death by a son, David Whitt, granddaughter, Shaina Whitt; and sister, Mary Hardy, and several half brothers and sisters.

She worked hard throughout her life. In her early years, she helped farm, substituted as a teacher, worked in the lunchroom at Ebb's Chapel School, and held jobs at Moore's Bakery and Roses before ending her career at Ingles.

Betty always raised a big garden and loved to can, even at the age of 91, she grew tomato plants in buckets. She was a member of Laurel Bend Baptist Church.

She is survived by a daughter, Denise Whitt and friend Meme Horne; her dog, Checkers; daughter-in-law, Lisa Whitt, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A graveside service will be held at 2:30pm Wednesday, September 16, 2026, at Rice Cemetery on Roaring Fork Road, Mars Hill, NC. Reverend Ken Parker will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, family asked that donations be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital or just "Pay it Forward" to buy someone's lunch or groceries that is next to you in line.
