Billy Earl Metcalf, 90, of Mars Hill, North Carolina passed away peacefully on September 21st 2024 after a brief illness. Earl was a Veteran of the Korean War in the 1950's. He retired from Honeywell (Micro Switch) where he and his beloved wife Shelby Jean worked together for their full career. He loved watching sports on TV and tending to his beautiful lawn at their home and planting a big potato patch each and every year. He was an avid fisherman and traveled to Canada several times. He was a member and deacon at Little Creek Baptist Church. He was well known in the community and loved to tell stories about his time in the military service.

He is preceded in death by his parents; Jake and Donna Metcalf of Flag Pond, Tennessee and Brother; Vaugn Metcalf of Denbigh, Virginia.

He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Shelby Ramsey Metcalf; son, Michael Metcalf (Lisa); sisters, Edna Shook (Vernon) of Barnardsville and Gwen Hensley (Junior) of Flag Pond, TN; as well as several cousins, nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm Wednesday, September 25, 2024 in Robbie Capps Memorial Chapel of Blue Ridge Funeral and Cremation Service. Reverends Cline Junior Hensley and Kermit Ball will officiate. Burial will follow in The Divide Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Charles George VA Medical Center, 100 Tunnel Road, Asheville, NC 28805. The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the VA Staff for the wonderful care that was given.
