Bobby Levi Young, 92, entered his heavenly home on Friday, September 11, 2026, in Asheville, North Carolina under the care of the Veterans Affairs Hospice team. He was born on September 7, 1934, in Forks of Ivy, Madison County, North Carolina to the late Roy Otis Young and Julia Martha McLean Young. Throughout his life he served many roles ranging from Husband, Father, Grandfather, Forest Service Ranger, Teacher, and Chief in the Navy Reserves.

He is survived by his wife, Ann W. Young; his son, Charles Richard Young, MD (Lynn); his stepsons, Richard Wesley White (Diane) and John Michael White (Lena); his grandchildren, Bradley Young, Ben Young, Brody Young, Trever Austin, Jackie White, Maddy White, Levi White, and Lauren White; and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his mother, Julia Martha Young, and his father, Roy Otis Young.

Bobby served aboard the U.S.S. Courtney for four years before joining the Navy Reserves, where he worked his way up to Chief. His military service remained an important part of his life and reflected his commitment and discipline to serving and protecting others. In addition to his military service, he devoted 34 years as an educator teaching social studies and science in Florida and Virginia with the majority of his career in North Carolina. Over the summers he devoted his time to the U.S. Forest Service as a Park Ranger.

He was a proud member of Salem United Methodist Church and participated in numerous mission trips throughout his life. He enjoyed traveling, giving back to communities and sharing his faith throughout his travels. His faith and church community were meaningful foundations throughout his life.

Among the many pursuits during his lifetime, he enjoyed most sailing at the Western Carolina Sailing Club, working with horses, and driving his classic A Model to the Wagon Wheel for breakfast. These interests were a memorable part of his daily life and the life he shared with those around him.

Bobby Levi Young will be remembered for the life he lived, the family he leaves behind, his years of military service, and his lasting connection to his church, his interests, and his strong North Carolina roots.

A funeral service will be held at 12:30 pm, Wednesday September 16, 2026, in the Salem United Methodist Church, Weaverville. Pastor Cindy Lunsford and Rev. Kent Smith will officiate. Burial will take place at 2:00 pm in the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery, Black Mountain. The family will received friends from 11:30 - 12:30 prior to the service at the church.
