Brenda Sue Cornett Ray, age 65, of Weaverville, passed Friday March 17, 2023. She was born in Harlan, KY, May 1, 1957, to the late Arnie and Pearlie Eldridge Cornett.

Brenda was a stay-at-home mom and known to many as "Mimi". She was a member of the Celebration Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John Ray; sisters, Maryetta Cornett, Freda Boggs, and Elsie Huff; and a brother, Henry Cornett.

Left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Carrie Martin (Michael), and Melissa Odom (Jason); a son, John Ray (Amy); sisters, Millie Cornett, Martha Coots, Marie Deal, and Eliza Shepherd; brothers, Hargus, Lawrence, Owen, Cody and Alan Cornett; eight grandchildren, Amber Wilson (Jason), Heather Bodford (Creston), Michael Martin, Gabriel Martin, Joanna Odom, Jason Odom, Isaac Ray, and Elijah Ray; and one great grandchild, Daisy Bodford.

A funeral service will be held 1:00 pm Thursday, March 23, 2023 in Robbie Capps Memorial Chapel of Blue Ridge Funeral Service. Reverends Hargus Cornett and Jim Moore will officiate. The family will receive friends 11:30 am – 1:00 pm prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will follow in West Memorial Park.
