Carmel Clyde Penland, 83 of Asheville, NC went to be with the Lord, January 2, 2016 at John F. Keever Solace. He was the son of the late Clyde and Derfie Willis Penland. Mr. Penland was retired from the North Carolina Department of Transportation and a member of Mount Sheba Baptist Church. In addition to his parents Mr. Penland is preceded in death by sisters, Jean Holland, Grace Holcombe and Stella Penland; a great grandson, "A.J." Aaron Jace Cedeno.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Louise Gaddy Penland; daughters, Rhonda Estel (Roger), Melissa Sumner (Aaron); son, Steven Penland (Peggy); sister, Gladys Rutledge, 7 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, a special nephew Buford McGuinn and several other nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held 2:00pm, Wednesday, January 6, at Mount Sheba Baptist Church. Reverends Steve Rhinehart and Charles Rogers will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12-2:00pm prior to the service.
