Carolyn Angel Merrill, 73, of Weaverville, formerly of Mars Hill, passed away on Saturday, May 9, 2026. She was a native of Buncombe County, having lived most of her life in Oconee County, SC, and was the daughter of the late Summie and Edna Grindstaff Angel. She is preceded in death by her husband, Lane Merrill, and a grandson, Josh Merrill.

Carolyn had a kind, gentle and nurturing soul, loved to cook and was especially known for her biscuits and gravy, and loved to fish. She enjoyed playing basketball and bowled a perfect game with her church league. She also loved cats and dogs, wearing tie-dye and crocks, and took great pride in caring for her family, friends and neighbors.

Carolyn is survived by two sons, Shawn Hyer (Maria), her children, Vincent and Amelia and his daughter, Emily Hyer, and Tim Merrill (Jen) and his children, Jacob Merrill (Heather) and Jordan Merrill (Adrienne) and grandchildren, Bryson, Jace, Raelyn, Rylee, Julia, Audrey, and Asher Merrill, and Kylie and Jackson Jewell; and brother, Summie Angel Jr.

A graveside service will be held at 1pm Thursday, May 14, 2026, at Bull Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.
