Obituary

C.B. Hylton Jr., 74, of Marshall, passed away on April 27, 2026. He was born on April 6, 1952, to his late parents, Cornel Hylton and Celia Burrell Hylton. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Edna Hylton; sisters, Ellie Brown, Ruby Roberts, Annie Metcalf, and Maude Woody; as well as his brother, James Hylton.

Surviving are his children, Kiley Hylton, and Alisa Rice (JB); stepchildren, Brittany Evans, Wayne Nash, Billy Nash, and Jason Sams; grandchildren, Michael and Katie Gregorich, Luke Wilson, Brent Rice (Ashley), Andrew Rice (Kimmy), and Audrey Ramsey (Dakota); great grandchildren, Mikey Rice, Tate, and Blake Ramsey; sisters Ruth Edwards, Berlia Cox (Gary), Ola Rice (Carmen): and many nieces, nephews, and special friends.

He was a dedicated member of Bald Creek Lodge for more than 40 years and a member of Land of The Sky Shrine Club for 18 years. He took great pride in supporting the Shriners Children's Hospital through his fundraising efforts. In addition, he was an active member of the Big Laurel Wood Ministry.

His hands were never idle, and his voice was never quiet. He always had a story to share or a song to sing, telling each tale with such vivid detail that listeners felt as though they were part of it. A prankster at heart, he delighted in making others laugh. He never met a stranger and could always be counted on to lend a helping hand.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to local 911 service, first responders, and paramedics.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm Sunday, May 3, 2026, in the Robbie Capps Memorial Chapel of Blue Ridge Funeral and Cremation Service. Rev. Junior Hensley and Rev. Kermit Ball will officiate. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at Lower English Cemetery in Mars Hill. Serving as pallbearers will be Eldridge English, Clint English, Michael Gregorich, Johnny Wilson, Wayne Nash, and Jeff Riddle.

Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.blueridgefuneralservice.org.
