IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Charles Edwin
Carter
March 6, 1931 – December 16, 2021
Charles Edwin Carter passed away Dec 16th 2021 in Weaverville, NC at 90 years of age. He was born March 6, 1931 to the late Paul Tildon Carter and Norma Carter in the Paint Fork area of Madison County, NC. He grew up with his sister Imogene on a farm and enjoyed horse back riding and raising various farm animals. He enjoyed his time in the Army focusing on radar technician from March 1955-March 1957 when he was stationed in SC, TX and PA. He was in the 91st Battalion and 176th Missile Battalion where his stations included Ft. Jackson, SC and Ft. Bliss, TX. The TX heat and the desert animals made for lots of Army stories later in life. After his military service, he returned to NC and resumed farming. His life was similar to any farming man of his generation with some exceptions. He married his high school sweetheart, Oleata, when they were 19 years old and was supportive of her banking career and long hours. He would often have dinner waiting when she got home late and would drive in to work with her on weekends for work catch up. Charles owned and operated a dairy farm in the early days and sold milk to Biltmore Dairy Farms while growing burley tobacco, corn and hay. In later years, he raised various farm animals including Hereford cows and sheep. He exhibited common traits of the Scots-Irish including military service, being gregarious and extroverted, enjoying telling stories, loyalty to family including his ancestors, as well as self-sustainability. He loved the land he farmed and enjoyed good conversation and cooking. His friends and neighbors liked to stop by his house for his piping hot homemade corn bread. Closer to Christmas, with luck homemade fudge would also be available.
He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 70 years, Oleata Carter, his daughter, Charleata Carter, PhD and his sister Imogene Carmichael (Tom) as well as a 37 yr old mule named Kate.
The family will have a Visitation Monday, Dec 20th from 1-2 pm at Blue Ridge Funeral Service in Mars Hill, NC and a Graveside Memorial Service will follow at the Mars Hill Baptist Church Cemetery with the North Carolina Honor Guard providing Military Honors.
