Obituary

Clella M. DeLaney, 91, of Asheville, NC, passed peacefully on November 10th, 2024, into her Heavenly Father's arms, along with waiting family and friends who have gone before her. Mrs. DeLaney was born in Mars Hill, NC, and was the daughter of the late William J. Grindstaff and Cilla English.

Mrs. DeLaney was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Justus W. DeLaney, sisters; Irene Blankenship, Eula Ingle, Alice Hensley, Ardis Edwards and brothers; Boyd, Calvin, and Vaughn Grindstaff.

Clella loved her Lord first, her husband, and her three boys. She also loved gospel music, her many friends and church groups, and hosting parties and get togethers in her home over the years. She was not only the host but was also the 'life of the party!' While raising her boys, countless hours were spent on ballfields, soccer fields, tennis courts and gymnasiums, cheering (and whistling) for them. She lived, loved, and enjoyed her life and family well; however, the most important thing to her was that all those whom she encountered would know Jesus and the impact He had on her life. Clella accepted Jesus as her Lord and Savior at an early age.

Surviving are her three sons; Terry (Renee) DeLaney from Knoxville, TN, Tim (Diana) DeLaney from Jonesboro, GA, and Gary (Whitney) DeLaney from Alpharetta, GA; five grandchildren; Jordan (Kelli) DeLaney, Josh (Erika) DeLaney, Amberlee (Michael) Trulove, Chris DeLaney, and Courtney (Matthew) Stewart, along with 14 great grandchildren; Saylor, Ashton, Layton, Eloise and Jack DeLaney from Knoxville, TN; Octave and Bijou DeLaney from Newberg, OR; Titus, Mercy, Levi, Haven, Autumn, Shepherd and Eden Stewart from Springdale, AR, as well as many very special nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, November 15th, 2024, at Upper Laurel Baptist Church in Mars Hill, NC, at 2:00 PM. The family will receive family & friends at the Church between 1:00 – 2:00 PM, prior to the service at 2:00pm.

The family would like to express a sincere thank you to the staff at Oaks Memory Care in Alpharetta, Georgia, along with Sally Hoque, Deon and Clare for their care and compassion given to Mrs. DeLaney and her family during her later days.

If interested, the family suggests donations be made to Samaritans Purse, Contact information: Samaritanspurse.org or 800-262-1980 or P.O. Box 3000 Boone, NC 28607. Please designate "In Honor of Mrs. Clella DeLaney" to support Hurricane Helene relief for the Asheville and Western North Carolina Region.
