Clyde Eugene Carter, 83, of Mars Hill, passed away on July 13, 2026, at Mission Hospital. He was born on March 23, 1943, and was the son of the late William and Leona Schutz Carter.

Clyde was a hardworking and devoted man who spent many years working road maintenance before retiring from the North Carolina Department of Transportation. He was a proud member of French Broad Masonic Lodge No. 292 A.F. & A.M. and faithfully attended Beech Glen Baptist Church. In his spare time, Clyde found great joy in farming and woodworking, a way of life he dearly loved, and treasured every moment spent with his family.

Left to cherish his memory are his beloved wife of 59 years, Wanda Austin Carter; a daughter, Kim Carson; a son, Michael Carter; two cherished grandchildren, Kristen Carson and Colby Carson (Madison); his precious great granddaughter, Kylee Carson; and a special friend of the family, Debbie Payne.

A funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm, Saturday, July 18, 2026, in the Robbie Capps Memorial Chapel of Blue Ridge Funeral and Cremation Service. Rev. Shane Cassida will officiate. Burial will follow in the Beech Glen Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:00 - 1:00 pm prior to the service at the funeral home.
