Reverend David Charles Gentry Sr. age 80 formerly of Weaverville, passed away in Duncan SC on Saturday, June 19, 2021. He is the son of the late Erskin and Irene Lance Gentry.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Peggy Fields Gentry; daughter, Shirley Hulderman (Mark); son, David C. Gentry Jr, (Tena); "Special sister and brother" Joyce and Harold Lawrence; sisters, Mildred Barnwell, Joyce Franklin (Junior), Mary Black, and Jeanette Grooms (George); brothers, Tate Gentry (Polly); grandchildren, David Gentry III (Madeline), Bradley Gentry (Morgan), Patrick Hulderman (Casey), Trent Hulderman, Stephanie Vernon (Sherman) and Alicia Troxel (Brian); ten great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Rev. Gentry pastored in Buncombe, Madison, Yancey Counties, Tennessee and South Carolina since he was 16 years of age. He is a member of Fellowship Baptist Church in Campobello, SC.

The family would like to give a special thanks to Greenville Cancer Center and Dr. Kimong Gococo and his staff for their care for the past 11 years and to the Interim Hospice for their love and care for the last 3 months for their loved one.

A funeral service will be held 2:00 PM Wednesday, June 23, 2021 at Robbie Capps Memorial Chapel of Blue Ridge Funeral Service. Reverends Preston Church and Mike Miller will officiate. Burial will follow in Oak Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the funeral home.
