Alexander - Edna Reese Selman, 87, died Friday, March 3 at Aston Park Health Care Center in Asheville, NC. She was born January 27, 1936 in Mars Hill, NC. She is survived by her sons Bob of Alexander, NC and Ron (and wife Jennifer) of Marshall, NC, daughter Linda (and husband Greg) of Greenville NC, five grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren, who affectionately called her Gram. She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Rev. Robert P. Selman, her son, Rick, and parents Edward "Pat" and Edna Ball Reese.

She worked at the Mars Hill Movie Theater while growing up. After graduating Mars Hill High School in 1954, she moved to Detroit, MI. She was a graduate of the Detroit Business Institute. She was employed by the Ford Motor Company as a secretary for the payroll department. It was in Michigan where she met her husband and the two were wed. After returning to the mountains of WNC, she became a 1st grade teacher assistant at Red Oak Elementary School in Weaverville, NC. She received the Governor's Program of Excellence Award for starting the Pre-K program at Red Oak.

Mrs. Selman volunteered much of her time telling Bible stories with her flannel graph in schools, churches, Vacation Bible Schools, summer Bible camps, nursing homes, and daycare centers. She was also known as The Story Lady on WMMH radio in Marshall, NC, telling Bible stories to the children of Madison County. She taught Sunday School, sang in the choir, led missionary groups, and supported her husband at the churches he pastored. She had strong faith and lived a life full of sharing her belief and hope for the future.

Visitation will be Tuesday, March 7 at Blue Ridge Funeral Service, 7626 HWY 213, Mars Hill, NC from 1:00 pm until 2:00 pm with the funeral service to follow in the Robbie Capps Memorial Chapel. Interment will be at Mars Hill Cemetery.
