Edward Jackson Shortridge, age 99, passed away Friday, November 8, 2019 at VA Medical Center in Asheville. He is the son of the late Edgar and Dora Owens Shortridge. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his wife, Marilyn Joyce Shortridge and brother Dennis Shortridge. Mr. Shortridge was a WWII Navy Veteran.

He is survived by his daughter, Joyce McLane of Marshall, NC; son, Richard Shortridge of Orlando, FL.; grandchildren, Jennifer, Melissa, Alissa and Kara.

A funeral service will be held 2:00PM Friday, November 15, 2019 at Robbie Capps Memorial Chapel of Blue Ridge Funeral Service. Burial will follow in the Madison Hills Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

Mr. Shortridge was an electronics engineer who designed amateur radios and antennas. He designed the first depth finder for Shakespeare Marine and assisted in developing the communications equipment for the first lunar landing. Later in his retirement years, he wrote three books on innovative antenna broad banding methods as well as an autobiography titled "A Tale of a Life Too Soon Forgotten."
