Edwin D.L. Ponder, 75, passed away peacefully on Monday, February 5, 2018 at his home. He was born on December 22, 1942 in Yancey County to Edwin Yates and Douschkia Curtis Ponder. He was an active member of Bright Hope Laurel United Methodist Church. Ed enjoyed rabbit hunting, working outside, delivering food for the community food pantry, talking with his many friends and making new ones wherever he went. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his son, Thomas Edwin and his sister Lillian Proffitt. Ed is survived by his wife of 51 years, Carolyn Wallin Ponder; daughter Laura Ponder; sister, Pat Fender (Jake); and many nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held 3:00 PM on Saturday, February 10, 2018 at Bright Hope Laurel United Methodist Church at 271 Laurel Valley Road, Mars Hill. Rev. Jim Kuse and Rev. Patricia Lewis will officiate. The family will receive friends at the church from noon until 3:00 PM prior to the service.
