Sluder
March 29, 1924 – January 12, 2024
Edwin Roy Sluder, age 99, of Oakley went home to be with his Savior on Friday January 12, 2024. He was born in Leicester to the late Roy and Oma Snelson Sluder. His wife, Ethel Fisher Sluder died April 24,2000 after 53 years of marriage. Along with his parents and wife, Edwin is preceded in death by his two brothers; Cecil and Clarence.
He is survived by a daughter, Joyce Plemmons (Wayne) of Weaverville; a son, Eddie (Stephanie) of Fairview; five grandchildren, Jan Braxton (Steve) of Weaverville, Ashlee Sluder of Fairview, Jeremy Sluder of Greenville, South Carolina, Aubree Cauble (Cody) of Houston, Texas, and Jonathan Sluder of Fairview; three great grandchildren, Austin Braxton (Kaity) of Mars Hill, Hayden Braxton of Weaverville, Meredith Taylor (Zach) of Franklin, North Carolina; one great-great granddaughter Parker Braxton; brother, Dean (Dee) of Arden; sisters, Carolyn Corn of Raleigh and Barbara Waters (Bob) of Statesville; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Sluder loved his church, Gashes Creek Baptist Church, and had been a member for over 65 years. He was a World War II Army tank commander with the 2nd Calvary under George Patton. He was also an auto body and fender repair man in Asheville for many years.
Edwin's grandsons will serve as his pallbearers for his service.
The service will be held Saturday, January 20, 2024, at 1:00pm, at Gashes Creek Baptist Church. Reverends Stacey Harris, Mike Rogers, and J.D. Gipe will officiate. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. A burial will follow at Gashes Creek Baptist Church cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Gashes Creek Baptist Church, 308 Gashes Creek Road, Asheville, NC 28803.
