Eula Mae Edwards Cordell, age 87, went home to heaven Thursday, September 12, 2024. She was born on Thursday, January 28, 1937 in Mars Hill and was a lifelong resident of Buncombe and Madison Counties.

Eula was preceded in death by her loving husband, A. Wayne Cordell who passed on July 15, 1995; parents, Bernard & Lillie Coffey Edwards; brothers, Floyd, and Attley Edwards; sister, Kathy Young.

She is survived by her beloved son, Roger and his wife, Catherine, and her twin sister Bula Payne of Alexander.

Eula was strong and independent, living the last 29 years of her life alone, despite many health challenges along the way. She was a 1956 graduate of Mars Hill High School and an employee of Microswitch in Mars Hill from 1972- 1999 where she made many friends and stayed in touch throughout life. Eula was very family oriented, whose family included many beloved friends, nieces, and nephews. She also was closely connected to her church family, loved to cook, and always wanted to provide for those in need. While husband Wayne was still with us, they loved to travel, oftentimes with nieces or nephews in tow. Eula was always up on the latest fashion trends and one of her favorite pastimes was shopping with her twin sister and friends, not just for herself, but mostly for friends and family. These shopping trips would become legendary.

The family would like to express their heartfelt appreciation to Madison Home Care & Hospice. Without their assistance, the family would not have been able to take care of Eula in her home. Special thanks to niece Teressa Roberson whose love, friendship, and caregiving for Eula is deeply appreciated.

A funeral service will be held at 3:00 pm on Sunday September 15, 2024, in the Robbie Capps Memorial Chapel of Blue Ridge Funeral and Cremation Service. Reverend Kenneth Pack, Brother Joel Fox and Brother Eddie Fox will officiate. A burial will follow in the Old Bull Creek Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2:00 – 3:00 pm prior to the service at the funeral home. The family will also be available at the home of Bula Payne, 659 Flint Hill Rd. Alexander, NC 28701 from 4:00 pm – 7:00 pm Saturday September 14, 2024.
