Obituary

Evelyn "Jerlene" Deweese Metcalf, age 80, of Weaverville, passed away after a short battle with cancer, surrounded by her loved ones on Friday, March 17, 2023. She was born January 9, 1943, in Madison County to the late John and Myrtle Coxe Deweese.

Jerlene was a loving, faithful, Christian mother, grandmother, and friend. She enjoyed spending time with her family. She was a farmer's wife that helped grow some of the best produce in the area.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ronald "Doc" Metcalf; sisters, Blanche Shelton, "Jo" Cornette, and Helen Deweese; brothers, Garvin, Jimmy, and Floyd Deweese.

Left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Susie Chandler (David), Tammy Presnell (Randy), and Kelli Burleson (Davie); sister, Glenda Carver; brothers, Donald and Bobby Deweese. 10 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; two great great-grandchildren, and special nephew, Kevin Carver.

A special thanks to Andy and Tiffany Burleson for the love and care of Jerlene.

A funeral service will be held Tuesday, March 21, 2023 in Robbie Capps Memorial Chapel of Blue Ridge Funeral Service. Reverends Bobby Sprinkle and Danny Sprinkle will officiate. The family will receive friends 1:00 pm – 2:00 pm prior to the service at the funeral home.
