IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Geneva
Massey
February 17, 1936 – January 2, 2026
Geneva Whitt Massey, 89, passed away peacefully on Friday January 2, 2026, while surrounded by her family. Geneva was a native of Madison County and was the daughter of the late Melvin Whitt and Delphia Griffin. Geneva was a long-time member of Mt. Bethel Freewill Baptist Church in Weaverville.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Earl Massey who died in 2018; a granddaughter, Amanda Lynn Massey; a daughter-in-law, Kathy Massey; and a sister, Ernestine Hunter.
Left to cherish her memories are her son, Gary Massey; daughter, Kathy Hendren (Barry); son, Jimmy Massey (Marsha); and six grandchildren, Brandon, Jeremy, Christen, Brittany, Jordan and Ashley; seven great grandchildren, Marley, Miles, Caitlyn, Carlee, Natalie, Emmaline, and Emerson; special brother-in-law, Clarence Hunter; and special niece, Karen Hedrick as well as many other nieces and nephews.
Geneva took great pride in being a mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She raised a garden, canned foods, froze foods, and did seamstress work to care for her family. She tirelessly cared for the love of her life, Earl, during his extended illness. Being a mom was the greatest honor of her life, raising her children to love the Lord, leading them by her example in how to grow in their faith. A prayer warrior, she spent countless hours praying to her Lord and Savior for her family as well as many others. Geneva leaves her family the sweetest gift possible, the peace of knowing she is resting in God's embrace.
Due to illness in the family and out of an abundance of caution, a private family funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm Wednesday, January 7, 2026, in the Robbie Capps Memorial Chapel of Blue Ridge Funeral and Cremation Service. Reverends Roy McPeters and Bill Orr will officiate. Burial will be in Mt. Bethel Freewill Baptist Church Cemetery.
Flowers are welcome.
The family would like to offer a special thank you to the staff at Madison Health and Rehabilitation for the love and care they showed mom during her stay. Words can never express our gratitude.
Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.blueridgefuneralservice.org.
