Glenda Joan Hawkins Snelson, 79, of Weaverville, went to heaven to be with her Lord and loved ones on Monday, July 29, 2024. She was a lifelong resident of Buncombe County and the daughter of the late Denver and Zola Edwards Hawkins. She is also preceded in death by her husband, Luther Sawyer; sisters, Jeanette Morgan and Maxine Ammons,; nephews, Billy McDevitt and Roger Morgan.

Glenda taught cosmetology for Buncombe County Schools for 20 years in the Career Development Center. She enjoyed shag dancing and spending time at the beach. Her strong Christian faith was evident in her love for her family.

Glenda is survived by her son Darrell Sawyer (Alana), sister, Shirley McDevitt, brother, Gary Hawkins, and a grandson, Hunter Sawyer.

A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, July 31, 2024 at 10:00 am in Gabriels Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.
