Glenna "Ruth" Freeman Fortner, 72 of Tillery Branch Road, passed away Sunday, June 30, 2019. She was the daughter of the late Bevily and Vernie Ball Freeman. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by sisters; Omega Rice, Agnes Childress, and Wilma Roberts and a brother, Cleatus Freeman. Ruth was a member of Spirit Life Church and loved playing the piano.

She is survived by her husband, Ed Fortner; daughter, Stephanie Fortner Higgins (Bobby), son, Jason Fortner; sister, Arlene Hunter (Wade); brother in law, David Childress; grandchildren, Courtney Mercer (Jake) and Emily Gray (Matthew); several nieces and nephews and a special niece, Sherri Anthony and her children, Amanda Damron and Jennifer Blankenship. She was Nana to everyone but especially to Maddox Rice, Adaleigh Rice and Zander Fender.

A funeral service will be held at 3:00PM Tuesday, July 2, 2019 at Robbie Capps Memorial Chapel of Blue Ridge Funeral Service. Pastor C.W. Anthony will officiate. Burial will follow in the Flint Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
