Gloria Mae Hysel Rice, 78, of Marshall, NC left this world for her eternal home in heaven on Saturday, July 6, 2024. She was born in Richland County, Wisconsin on January 24, 1946. She was the daughter of the late Jonathan H. Hysel and Amy Parr Hysel of La Farge, Wisconsin. She was also preceded in death by her brothers Charles Hysel, Danny Hysel, and Bob Hysel and by special sisters in law, Darlene Hysel and Charlotte Hysel, all of La Farge, Wisconsin, and special son in law, Wade Burry of Marshall.

Gloria will be lovingly remembered by her daughters, Staci Rice Smith and Theresa Rice Burry; her son in law Cameron Smith; sister Joyce Hysel (Clive Campbell) of La Farge, WI; brothers Jock Hysel (Fran) of La Crosse, WI and Ronnie Hysel (Annette) of La Farge, WI., all of whom she had a very close bond even though miles apart from one another. She will also be missed by her four grandchildren, Jonathan Payne (Sherry), Dalton Payne (Morgan Reeves), of Marshall, Ivy Riddle (Darren) of Mars Hill, and Mitchell Smith (Katie) of Burnsville; and four great grandchildren, Katie, Vera, Madilynn, and Myles; and her long-time best friend and neighbor, Doris Ballard. She loved her family and was a wonderful Momma and Nannie.

Gloria was retired from Micro Switch, in Mars Hill, having worked there for almost 30 years of which the last few years she held a supervisory position. Many have said of her that she was one of the best supervisors they ever had. After retirement, she worked part time at Roses Shopping Center in Weaverville for 11 years until its closure. After Roses closed, she spent most of her time at home reading, doing word search puzzles and Sudoku.

Gloria faithfully attended North Buncombe First Church of God, in Weaverville, for years, until her health would not allow her to go. She was a very private and quiet person, but she loved the Lord and would often share just how much He had blessed her throughout her life.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 7pm Monday July 15, 2024, at North Buncombe First Church of God in Weaverville, NC. Raymond Cantrell, her former pastor, will officiate. Burial will be at a later date in her hometown of La Farge, WI. The family will receive friends from 6-7pm prior to the service.
