Grover Dale Gillis, Jr., of Asheville passed away peacefully at home on October 8, 2023. Dale was a native of the Paint Fork community of Madison County and the son of Grover Dale Gillis, Sr. and Nell Ann Duck Gillis who preceded him in death.

He is survived by his loving wife, Ruth Blalock Gillis, son Jason Dale Gillis, Sr., grandsons Justin Dakota Dale Gillis and Jason "Jase" Dale Gillis, Jr., and great grandson Braxton Dale Gillis.

Before Dale enjoyed a career as a teacher of science and math, he graduated from Mars Hill High School and Mars Hill (College) University. After graduating he taught at T.C. Roberson High School 1964-1968 and Asheville High School 1968-1994 where he inspired many of his students to become educators.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00pm Thursday, October 12, 2023, at Robbie Capps Memorial Chapel of Blue Ridge Funeral Service. Burial will follow in Mars Hill Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:00-2:00pm prior to the service.
