Gwendolyn Joyce Cody Metcalf, 80, passed away Tuesday July 29, 2025. She was born March 31, 1945 in Buncombe County and was the daughter of the late Earnest Taft and Clara Burrell Cody.

Gwen retired from Mars Hil University in 2010 after 35 years of service in the Admissions Department. She was a faithful member of Blue Ridge Missionary Baptist Church. Gwen had a beautiful singing voice and loved to sing about her Lord and Savior and shared with anyone, anytime she could. She enjoyed crocheting especially for her grandchildren, whom she loved very much. She was a very proud and loving mother and grandmother.

Left to cherish her memory are her devoted husband of 58 years, Carroll Metcalf; daughter, Charla Lunsford (Darrell); son, Daniel Metcalf (Kim); grandchildren, Hannah Lunsford, Macean Metcalf, Jesse Lunsford, and Patrick Metcalf.

A funeral service will be held at 2:30 pm Sunday, August 3, 2025 in the Robbie Capps Memorial Chapel of Blue Ridge Funeral and Cremation Service. Reverend Gordon Peek and Daniel Metcalf will officiate. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the services at the funeral home.
