Harvey (Raymond Elias) Ponder, 84 of Bruce Road departed this life peacefully Friday, January 04, 2013. Harvey left while in the caring kind hands of the John F. Keever Solace staff. He was surrounded by his loving family members by his side. He left this earthly home to join his loving wife Bertha Buckner Ponder of 61 years and the Savior they both loved and served. He is also preceded by his parents Lee Roy and Eliza Ponder Ponder, one sister, Mauveliner Manuel, four brothers, Ronnie, Joe, Wayne and Richard Ponder and one great granddaughter, Coreatha Jenkins and a "special" brother, ,Bobby Wallen. Harvey was a master carpenter, building and remodeling homes throughout Madison and Buncombe County for as long as his health allowed. He was of Baptist faith, and proud of his firm belief in teaching his family the true meaning of learning to have faith in the "Amazing Grace of God."
He is survived by four daughters: Ruby and Emory Payne, Vivian and Bill Sellers, Ann and Jackie Lunsford, Nancy Ponder and fiancée Brian Farmer: Grandchildren Donna Mace (Michael Gardiner), Stephanie Jenkins, Eddie (Kathy) Jenkins, Clifford (Deana) Buckner, Monica (Rick) Olnhausen, Bobby Joe (Diana) Arrowood, Brook (Selina) Lunsford, Randall (Amanda) Swaney, Anna (Delaine) Ponder . Great grandchildren; Leslie Jackson (Ryan), Scotty and Daniel Mace, Ashley and Casey Dodd, Timmy, Tamera and Tiffany Jenkins, James Buckner, Shelby Olnhausen, Caden Arrowood, Chanel Candler, Jaclyn and Dalton Lunsford, Jessica and Whitney Swaney, Ashleigh and Taylor Ponder. 4 great- great grandchildren: Sisters Helen Ramsey, Beulah (Zeb) Buie: Brothers, Billy, Tommy, Harry Dale Ponder, one "special" sister Barbara Jean Wheeler and several other special nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be held Sunday, January 6 at 2 pm in the Robbie Capps Memorial Chapel of Blue Ridge Services. Officiating will be the Rev. Cline Hensley Jr. and Rev. Phillip Parker. The burial will be in the cemetery of Upper Laurel Baptist Church. The family will receive friends Saturday, January 5 from 6 to 8 at the funeral home. At other times the family will be at the home at 362 Bruce Road in Mars Hill.
