IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Hazel Eva
Robinson
March 17, 1931 – April 21, 2025
On April 21, 2025, the Lord whispered, 'Well done, my good and faithful servant,' and welcomed, Hazel Eva Anderson Robinson, age 94, of Mars Hill, NC, into His eternal presence. A beloved mother, "Maw," friend, and caregiver, Hazel lived a life full of joy, service, and unshakable faith.
Throughout her life, Hazel nurtured and cared for so many, whether it was the numerous patients she served during her years working on the pediatric unit at Mission Hospital, or the friends and family who gathered eagerly around her table to enjoy her legendary cooking. She was famous for her biscuits, chicken livers, fried taters, fried squash, and chicken and dumplings - if you could handle the hot peppers, she loved to sneak in. Hazel's personality was truly infectious. She brought laughter and light wherever she went and loved nothing more than "cutting up" and having a good time. Whether it was dancing with her great and great-great grandchildren, playing on the beaches of Emerald Isle, or showing no mercy in a competitive game of UNO (she especially loved dropping a "draw 4" card), Hazel knew how to have fun. One of her favorite sayings to the women in her family was, "Don't be afraid to wear green, green matches everything, because every flower has a green stem!"
As a faithful member of Terry's Fork Baptist Church, she never missed a chance to praise Jesus and tell others about His love. Even through life's hardest losses, including the passing of a brother in World War II, her husband, all her siblings, a son, sons-in-law, and daughter-in-law, Hazel held tight to her faith and the hope of a heavenly reunion. She often said, "Getting old is no fun when you lose so many of your family and friends," but she longed for the glorious homecoming that she surely experienced in Heaven last Monday afternoon.
Hazel leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and faith that will continue to live on in the hearts of the many lives she touched. Her memory will be cherished deeply by her children, Elaine Metcalf (Randell), Garard Robinson (Betty), Ronnie Robinson (Joyce), and Michelle McGee; daughter-in-law, Anna Robinson; 11 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; 18 great-great-grandchildren; and the countless others who called her "family."
Hazel now rests in eternal peace with her Savior, reunited with her loved ones: husband of 55 years, Oscar Robinson; parents, Kelse and Nellie Anderson; son, Ricky Robinson; brothers, Earl, James, Phil and Willie Anderson; sisters, Edna Honeycutt and Sylvia Metcalf; sons-in-law, Danny Metcalf, Ricky Hollifield, and Junior McGee; daughter-in-law, Sherry Robinson; and grand-daughter, Melissa Quinn.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of Madison Health and Rehabilitation and Chad from Four Seasons Palliative Care for their compassionate care.
A service honoring Hazel's life will be held at 1:00 pm, Saturday, April 26, 2025, in the Robbie Capps Memorial Chapel of Blue Ridge Funeral and Cremation Service. Reverends Matthew Honeycutt, Aaron Jeffords, and Randy Sprinkle will officiate. Burial will follow at Chambers Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm Friday, April 25, 2025 at the funeral home.
We take comfort in the promise of 2 Corinthians 5:8: "To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord." Though we grieve, we do not grieve without hope.
