Obituary

Jack G. Marler, 68, of 242 Phillips Valley Rd., passed away Saturday, September 28, 2013 at Charles George VA Medical Center. Mr. Marler was a native of Madison County, the son of the late James Bufford and Betty Sams Marler. Jack was a US Army Veteran. He served as deacon for several years at Bethesda Baptist Church, Candler, NC. He attended Dry Branch Baptist Church most recently. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by a brother James Marler. Jack is survived by his wife Teresa Slagle Marler; daughter Elizabeth Pack and husband Kenneth; sisters Pat Morris, Ann Gibson, Beulah Payne and Carol Marler; brothers Barry and Johnny Bud Marler; grandchildren Shelby and Heath Pack and several nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held 2:00pm Wednesday, October 2, at Old Bull Creek Baptist Church on Hwy 213. Revs. Carl Robinson and Randy Roberts will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Mars Hill VFW Post 5483 conducting graveside rites. The family will receive friends from 6-8:00pm Tuesday, October 1, at Blue Ridge Funeral Service. Serving as pallbearers will be Mark and Luke Edwards, Greg Pressley, Joe Robinson, Neal Chandler, Ken Mull and Jason Ball.
