It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of a beloved son, brother, father, and grandfather James( Jimbo) Hurst, who left us Friday at the age of 49. Born on May 7, 1976, he lived a life rooted in love, loyalty, and connection. He was a man who found joy in the simple, meaningful things-time with family, helping others, and holding on to the memories that mattered most. He was known for keeping photos and mementos, quietly preserving the moments that told the story of a life well loved.

He was the proud father of two sons Lane (Kristen) and Korbin and a grandfather to Easton 3, and Emory, 2 months old. His love for his family ran deep. He is survived by his wife Samantha Hurst, his mother, Ruth; his sisters, Pam, Jamie, Crystal Lynn and Christy Sanders; and his brothers, Jason, Scott and Kent. He was preceded in death by his father, Jimmy Hurst.

He had a natural gift for mechanics and enjoyed his trade at Mars Hill Automotive. Jimbo, could fix just about anything, but what truly set him apart was his willingness to show up for others. He was often the first to lend a hand, never hesitating to help someone in need. His kindness was steady and genuine, the kind you could always count on. He also had a wonderful sense of humor and a special place in his heart for his nieces and nephew, who brought him so much joy. Whether he was making someone laugh or simply spending time together, he had a way of making people feel loved and at ease. He will be remembered for his generous spirit, his quiet strength, and the deep love he had for his family. Though his absence leaves a space that cannot be filled, the memories he created and the love he gave will remain with us always. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.

A funeral service will be held at 1pm Thursday, March 26, 2026, at Blue Ridge Funeral & Cremation Service. The family will receive friends Wednesday, March 25, 2026, from 5:00 - 7:00pm, at Blue Ridge Funeral & Cremation Service.

Pallbearers will be Lane Hurst, Kent Hurst, Jason Hurst, Colton Hurst, Justin Laughter, Chase Shelton, Pete Frierson and Taylor Murphy.

In Lieu of flowers the family is requesting that donations be made to Blue Ridge Funeral & Cremation Service, PO Box 27, Mars Hill, NC 28754, to assist with final expenses.
