James C. Jarvis, Jr. 87 of Forks of Ivy outstripped the rest of us Wednesday, January 9, 2013 at his home surrounded by his life's partner, his young'un's , their spouses, and his grandchildren. James retired from Sears after 40 years, but this was only his job. His life's work was working alongside his wife and kids and helping others at every opportunity. He was a devoted member of Ivy Hill Baptist Church for over 60 years where he was honored to serve as Chairman of deacons for many years and Adult Men's Sunday School Teacher. He served on mission boards both home and abroad, traveling to Venezuela several times. He loved to laugh and those who knew him realized he was a true prankster.
James was the son of the late Clarence and Maude Clouse Jarvis. He was also preceded in death by a sister Mary Powell, a brother Jack Jarvis, and a host of brother and sisters in law that he considered brothers and sisters.
Mr. Jarvis is survived by his loving wife of 64 years Wilma Emory Jarvis; children Delora (David) Sumerel of Ninety-Six, SC , Kay Mackey of Weaverville, Larry (Linda) Jarvis of Marshall, and Rebecca (Bob) Gessner of Selma, NC; 7 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild.
