Jerry Dean Harwood, 72, of Barnardsville, passed away on Tuesday, September 5, 2023, at his home. He was the son of Darline Harwood of Barnardsville and the late Carl Harwood and lifelong resident of Buncombe County. Jerry was a rehab tech with Blue Ridge Homes and a deacon of Paint Fork Freewill Baptist Church, and member of Faith Independent Baptist Church. He was faithful and caring to his family and friends. He was happiest when surrounded by his children and grandchildren.

Jerry is preceded in death by his brothers, David Lee, Arnold Gene, and Terry Michael Harwood, infant brother, Carl Harwood, Jr. and a special uncle, Jimmy Harwood.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Margaret Elaine Hensley Harwood; daughters, Patricia Harwood McCurry (Darrell), and Angela Harwood Cantrell (Mark); son, Jerry Dewayne Harwood (Felicia); sister, Shirley Hensley; brother, Perry Harwood (Deborah); grandchildren, Leonard Cole III, Jonathan Cole, Stephanie Turner, Samantha Gossett, Tyler Peterson, Adrianna Espinoza, and Aiden and Josiah Harwood; and 13 great grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held at 11am Saturday, September 9, 2023, at Faith Independent Baptist Church. Reverends Robert Reynolds and Larry Coates will officiate. Burial will follow in Harwood Family Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
