Joseph Carroll "Joe" Goodlake, 78, of Marshall, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 23, 2026. Born on April 12, 1948, he was the son of the late Harry and Catherine Sherlin Goodlake. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a grandson, Christopher W. Goodlake.

Joe was a kind-hearted mountain man whose greatest joy came from the love of his family. He was a devoted son, a caring brother, a loving father, and a proud grandfather. He will be remembered for his gentle spirit, his quiet strength, and the love he shared with those blessed to know him. Though he has left this earthly home, the memories he created and the love he gave will remain in the hearts of his family for years to come.

Left to cherish his memory are his daughters, Deborah Moore and Becky Goodlake; his sons, Billie Goodlake and Rodney Goodlake; his sisters, Wanda, Shirley, and Joyce; and his beloved grandchildren, Rebecca Moss, Trevor Goodlake, Alyiah Goodlake; and his adored great grandchildren, Chansen E. Moss, Christopher H. Goodlake, and Everley A. Goodlake.

A graveside service to celebrate Joe's life will be held at 2:00pm Monday, June 29, 2026 at Woodlawn Cemetery in Asheville. Reverend Lesley Hines will officiate. The family will receive friends from 12-1:00pm prior to the service at the Robbie Capps Memorial Chapel of Blue Ridge Funeral & Cremation Service in Mars Hill.

Though Joe's journey on this earth has come to an end, the love he shared and the memories he leaves behind will continue to be a source of comfort and strength for those who knew and loved him.
