Joyce Arrowood Cole Smith, 84, of Weaverville, passed away Wednesday, September 6, 2023. She was the daughter of the late Robert Fern Arrowood Sr. and Leah King Arrowood and a lifelong resident of Buncombe County. Joyce formerly worked as a seamstress, EMT, and teacher, but was a Mama first.

She is preceded in death by her first husband, Rufus Cole, who died in 1975; brothers, Gordon, and Bobby Arrowood; sister, June Cole; and a grandson, Timmy Cole.

Joyce is survived by her husband of 33 years, Bill Smith; daughters, Marcia Deweese (Edward), Annette Deweese (Billy), and Myrna Cole; son, Michael Cole (Shirley); 10 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren, and 9 great-great grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held at 11am Monday, September 11, 2023, at Robbie Capps Memorial Chapel of Blue Ridge Funeral Service. Reverends Larry Rogers and Preston Riddle will officiate. Burial will follow in Ivy Hill Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
