Karen Waldrop Rice, 65, of Weaverville, went to be with Jesus on January 13, 2022. She was the daughter of Jean Houston Waldrop and the late Woodard Waldrop. She was preceded in death by her brother Allan Waldrop and her sister-in-law Kathy Massey. Karen was a former case worker with Buncombe County DHHS. She was a devout Christian and sang in the Mt. Bethel Gospel Quartet for many years. She attended Newbridge Baptist Church.

Karen was a loving wife and mother. She is survived by her husband of 45 years Danny Rice; daughter: Brett Henderson (Jimmy); sister: Kathy Brown (Danny Joe); brother-in-law: Gary Massey; sister-in-law: Sheila Pike (Michael); grandchild: Lorelei Henderson; as well as several nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held on Saturday, January 15, 2022, at 3:00 pm at Mt. Bethel Freewill Baptist Church in Weaverville with Rev. Roy McPeters officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 pm until 2:30 pm in the Robbie Capps Memorial Chapel of Blue Ridge Funeral Services prior to the graveside service. The family respectfully requests that you wear a mask and encourages social distancing to try to keep everyone safe during these times.
