IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Kathleen
Edwards
February 11, 1938 – July 11, 2025
Kathleen Snelson Edwards, 87, of Mars Hill, passed away on Friday, July 11, 2025. She was a lifelong resident of Madison County and the daughter of the late Morrison and Emma Allen Snelson. In addition to her parents, she is also preceded in death by her husband, Alvin Vernon Edwards; a son, Michael D. Ledford, six sisters and five brothers.
Kathleen was not only known as wife, mom and Nana to her family she was also known as Nana to the children she had the privilege of babysitting over the years. She often expressed how all the children she worked with gave her so much joy. She was faithful to her church by teaching Sunday school, crafts at Bible School and making sure we were in church every time the doors were open. She was faithful to her community by volunteering at Beech Glenn Community Center Senior Meal site for 20+ years. She was also faithful to her family by using her talents as a seamstress. She started sewing for the public at the age of 16 on a pedal sewing machine. She would take on projects most would not attempt, such as making her children's clothes, making bridesmaids dresses for two of her children's weddings, costumes for church plays, alterations for the community and making many quilts alongside her sisters and daughters. We learned many things by her side. Loving Jesus, being content with what you have, making the best of everything, preserving food, crocheting, embroidery, quilting, home management and many other things. She loved jigsaw puzzles, flowers, Sudoku, word search, reading, her family but most of all her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Kathleen is survived by two daughters, Sherrie Ballard (Jeff) and Beverly Haney (Jeff); son, Ricky Edwards (Cindy); a sister, Genevieve McMahan; a daughter-in-law, Donna Ledford; grandchildren, Donnie Hart, Joshua Hart (Leigh), Ashley Masters (Ken), Katey Greer (Joe), Sean Gosnell, Zachary Haney (Stacie), and Kaleb Haney; 10 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Bobby Edwards.
A graveside service will be held at 11am Wednesday, July 16, 2025, at Cedar Hill Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery. Reverend Jeff Haney will officiate. The family will receive friends from 5-7pm Tuesday at Robbie Capps Memorial Chapel of Blue Ridge Funeral Service.
