Obituary

Linda Ann Chandler Maynor, age 78, of Weaverville went home to be with the Lord on June 12, 2025. Born in Madison County on May 4, 1947, Linda was the youngest of 5 children and the daughter of the late William Nelson Chandler and Ollie Jarvis Chandler. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her two brothers, Earl and Ray Chandler and sisters, Irene Miller (James), Eloise Blankenship, Shelby Jean Phillips (Edward) and two sisters-in-law, Elaine and Janet Maynor along with several other family members.

Linda Ann is survived by the joys of her life, including her loving husband of 58 years, Wade Maynor, a daughter, Tabetha Silvers (Michael) of Spruce Pine, her son, Tony Maynor of Weaverville, 4 grandchildren: Caleb Lewis (Kristi), Bethany Thomason (Alan), Juli Ledford (Jaken) and Anna Brooke Wilson (Austen) and 5 great-grandchildren: Layla and Ellis Thomason, Brylee and Berklee Ledford and Caden Lewis; brothers-in law, Charles Blankenship (Elizabeth), Wayne Maynor, Troy Maynor (Donna), Zale Maynor (Roselee); sisters-in law, Betty and Norma Jean Chandler and Flo Maynor along with nieces and nephews, cousins and many other relatives.

Linda Maynor was a 1965 graduate of North Buncombe High School and was employed in earlier years by AB Emblem in Weaverville and Square D Corporation in Asheville where she was an assembler and Microswitch in Mars Hill where she worked as a telephone/switchboard operator. Linda was also proud to be a homemaker, caring for her husband and children.

August 5, 1967, Linda fell in love with and married one of the Flat Creek twins, Wade Maynor, who was called to active duty for his country in the US Air Force, serving as a Crew chief on the F-104 and F-4 aircrafts during the Vietnam War along with his twin brother, Wayne Maynor.

Linda was locally most well-known and loved for her God-given talent of Gospel music piano playing. She joyfully accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as her Savior at the age of 11 years and was baptized under the preaching ministry of the late, Rev. Ebb Jenkins. Linda originally started playing the piano when she 7 years old and at the age of 11, she accepted the position as pianist for Ivy Gap Baptist Church in Burnsville where she played for the church choir as her husband, Wade was the singing leader.

She continued to pursue her love for serving Christ by playing the piano for various camp meetings, tent revivals and church choirs thru the years. One of her all-time favorite musicians was Eva Mae LeFevre who played and sang with the well-known Southern Gospel group, the LeFevres before their name was eventually changed to the Rex Nelon Singers. Linda's piano style was quite unique as she loved to, in her own words, "get with it". She was even once randomly asked by an individual at a visiting church if she had ever played in a saloon. Linda laughingly replied "No".

Thru the years, Linda also played for groups such as Saved By Grace and the Grace Trio. In 2001, Linda Maynor became pianist for her family group, Eternal Harmony; a quartet featuring vocalists Tony Maynor, Amanda McElrath, Elaine Maynor, Jack Sprouse and Curtis Maynor on bass guitar. The group recorded a CD the same year entitled, "Still Telling The Old Story", which also featured a song Linda had written in 1986, after the passing of her father, called "That's My Jesus". Musical talents ran deep in Linda's family lineage. Her grandfather, Hiram Jarvis was a shaped note singing schoolteacher serving at Middle Fork Baptist Church in Mars Hill, NC as early as the 1920's. His personal tuning fork is on display at Mars Hill University.

From July 2009 - October 2021, Linda Maynor was the pianist for Oak Ridge Missionary Baptist Church in Alexander, and she also volunteered many years of her time by answering phones and writing up pledges at Sharathon for The King's Radio, WKJV AM 1380 in Asheville, NC.

Linda was known as an old-fashioned prayer warrior and an avid cook, specializing in canning beans, tomatoes along with other delicious foods. In her lifetime she was honored to have been able to cook for many of God's Men and their families. She also had a skill of being able to listen to, council with and help carry the burdens of many people who just needed an uplift with words of encouragement in their lives.

Visitation with family and friends will be held from 6-8pm Monday, June 16, 2025, at Robbie Capps Memorial Chapel of Blue Ridge Funeral & Cremation Service.

Funeral services will be held at 2pm on Tuesday, June 17, 2025, at Oak Ridge Missionary Baptist Church with the Revs. Larry Sprouse, Junior Hollifield and Davy Shelton officiating. Burial and graveside services will immediately follow in the Jarvis Family Cemetery in Mars Hill with the Rev. Roger Massey and Brother Austen Wilson officiating.

With a humble spirit, Linda always tried to exalt her Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, by the life she lived and believed in giving Him the glory for all blessings and talents and the prayers God had answered for herself, her friends and the family she loved so dearly. Many times, she could be heard in her bedroom crying out to God in prayer for lost sinners to be saved and the needs of others to be met.

The family would like to sincerely thank Emily Jamerson and Tabitha Hunter for their wonderful caregiving services provided to Linda during the last few weeks before her home-going.

"Farther on, still go farther...count the milestones one by one".
