Linda Metcalf Proffitt, 99, passed away on September 8, 2026. She celebrated her birthday on April 20, 1927, and was a daughter of the late Cager and Ella Hensley Metcalf. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Jack Proffitt who died March 23, 1991; children, Bula McGraw, Lonnie Proffitt, Doug Proffitt, and Terry Proffitt; sisters, Lula Gentry, and Dorothy Lovelace; brothers, Frank Goldsmith, Laddie, Lunnie, Roy, Luther, Lewis and Robert Metcalf.

Linda lived a long and meaningful life centered around her family, her faith, and the simple things that brought her happiness. She was a devoted wife, loving mother, and treasured grandmother whose family was always close to her heart. She enjoyed caring for her garden and flowers and took great pride in watching them grow and bloom. In quieter moments, Linda could often be found working a word search puzzle or enjoying one of her favorite television shows, The Golden Girls.

Her faith was an important part of her life, and Linda held the distinction of being the oldest member of Foster Creek Baptist Church. Throughout her 99 years, she witnessed many changes, welcomed generations into her family, and leaves behind a legacy of love that will continue through her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.

Left to cherish her memory are her children, Myra Ball, Randy Proffitt, Michael Proffitt, Teresa Buckner (Von), and Gary Proffitt (Connie); brother, Offie Metcalf;17 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; and 14 great-great grandchildren.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Angela Ramsey (granddaughter, whom she raised) for the love and care she gave Linda.

A funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm, Saturday, September 12, 2026 in the Robbie Capps Memorial Chapel of Blue Ridge Funeral and Cremation Service. Reverends Ken Parker, Adam Proffitt, Gordon Peek and Robert Taffer will officiate. The family will receive friends from 11:30 am - 1:00 pm prior to the services at the funeral home.

Burial will follow in Laurelton Chapel Cemetery on Foster Creek. Serving as pallbearers will be Tony Ball, Jacob Johnson, Jeremy Proffitt, Terry Lynn Proffitt, Scottie Proffitt, Michael McGraw, and Reagan Proffitt. Honorary pallbearers are Jerry Riddle, Jimmy Willis, L.J. Rice, Larry Fox, Carson Fender, Jimmy Roberts and Buster Norton.
