MARS HILL: Lokie Edgar Slagle, 89, of 13696 Big Laurel Rd., passed away Saturday, September 25, 2010 at the Brian Center of Weaverville. He was a native and life resident of Madison County. He was a son of the late Lewis and Elsie Cody Slagle. Lokie was also preceded in death by his wife Ella Rice Slagle. He was a self employed farmer and store owner and was a World War II army veteran.

Surviving are his daughter, Reva Slagle of Weaverville, sons; Bruce Slagle (Debra) of Macon, GA. and Owen Slagle of Mars Hill, brother, Von Slagle of Weaverville, grandchildren; Kevin Shelton, Chris, Laura, Jeff, Kari and Brooke Slagle, Angela Blair, Vanessa Cantrell, and nine great grandchildren.

The funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday, September 28, 2010 at Laurel Bend Baptist Church of which he was a member, where the body will lie in state 30 minutes prior to the service. Revs Cline Hensley Jr., Jerry Shelton and Eb Jenkins will officiate. Burial will follow in the Ivy Ridge Church of God Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 – 8 PM Monday, at Blue Ridge Funeral Service.
