Wolf Laurel - Kay Ryan, 85, passed away on November 16, 2019. A native of Pittsford, NY, she resided in Wolf Laurel for the past 25 years.

She is preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Leo William Ryan. Surviving are their nine children, William Ryan (Mary Lynn), Julie Hartland-Swann (Julian), Timothy Ryan (Patricia), Bridget Visk (John), James Ryan (Mary Adele), Duffy Ryan (Mary Kay), Mary Stec (Christopher), Nora Hall (Jimmie), and Michael Ryan as well as sixteen grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Kay earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and a Masters Degree in Health Education. She worked as a school nurse for twenty years. After retiring, Kay and her husband Bill moved full-time to the mountains of North Carolina. Here she taught CPR and enjoyed hiking, running and the natural beauty surrounding her.

A wake will be held at Blue Ridge Funeral Service, Mars Hill, on Thursday, November 21 from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. A funeral mass will be held at St. Andrew the Apostle Catholic Church on Friday, November 22 at noon. A private burial will follow at the WNC Veterans Cemetery in Black Mountain.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to MemoryCare in Asheville, NC or St. Andrew the Apostle Catholic Church in Mars Hill.
