Mattie Ruth Roberts, 78 of Old Eller Ford Rd. Weaverville passed away Wednesday, November 23, 2016 at John F. Keever Solace Center in Asheville. She was the daughter of Byron and Ruth Capps Roberts. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by a brother, Paul Reuben Roberts, daughter-in-law, Emma Jean Stanton Hale, sister-in-law Amelia Roberts and nephew-in-law, Tommy Pike. Ms. Roberts was born in Madison County and a lifelong member of Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church. She graduated North Buncombe High School in 1956, earned her Bachelor's Degree at Berea College, KY in 1961, Masters in Education in Cleveland State University, OH in 1981 and Post Graduate in 1986. Ms. Roberts was a teacher of typing, short-hand and vocational business education in the Lorain City School System of Ohio for 26 years at Admiral King and Lorain High Schools. She retired in 1995. She is survived by a daughter, Lisa Hale of the home; son, Scott Hale of Sheffield Village, OH; grandson, Nathan Hale (Danielle) of North Ridgeville, OH; granddaughter, LeeAnn Hale of Sheffield Village, OH: great grandchildren, Maxwell, Ellie, Emma. She is also survived by a brother, William (Bill) Roberts, sister-in-law Juanita Roberts; and her friend, caregiver, and niece, Pam Tweed; including other nieces and nephews of her family along with her faithful 4-legged companion "Leo". A funeral service will be held at 2:00pm Sunday, November 27, 2016 at Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church, Reverend Phillip Parker will officiate. Burial will follow in the Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends 6pm – 8pm Saturday in the Robbie Capps Memorial Chapel of Blue Ridge Funeral Service.
