Nell Ballard Metcalf, 92, of Barnardsville, passed away Thursday, May 18, 2023. She was a daughter of the late Willie Ralph and Aretta Williams Ballard.

In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Roy Gaither Metcalf; two sons, Eugene, and Donald Metcalf (Helen); grandchildren, Joey, and Savannah Metcalf; and sisters, Pauline, Lucille, and Ina.

Nell loved flowers and working in her garden. She was the manager at Diana's Shop in Asheville, after retirement she enjoyed helping her grandson, Joey, at Main Street Antique's. She was a devoted member of Barnardsville Freewill Baptist Church.

She is survived by her sons, Robert Metcalf (Jo) and Steve Metcalf; brother, Frank Ballard (Faye); grandchildren, Darrell Metcalf (Morgan) and Daren Metcalf (Donna); great grandchildren, Davis, Lawson, Merritt, Corliss, Raylon, Jacob, and Elizabeth.

Her funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, May 23, 2023, in the Robbie Capps Memorial Chapel of Blue Ridge Funeral Service. Reverend Mike Thomas will officiate. A private burial will follow in Ballard Cemetery, Barnardsville.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm on Tuesday, May 23, 2023, at Blue Ridge Funeral Service.
