Nita Shelton, age 87, passed away peacefully on July 14, 2024. She is a native of Madison County and a daughter of the late Troy and Emmie Treadway Dockery. In addition to her parents, Nita is preceded in death by sisters; Gladys, Pansy, Blanche and Agnes, brother; Clyde.

She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Nita's unwavering faith and belief in God sustained her throughout her life and was shown by her love and care for others.

She is survived by her husband of 69 years, Hugh "Benson" E. Shelton, daughter Nina Ponder (Gerald); special son Buddy Hensley (Anna); sisters, Gertrude Norton, Natalie Norton and Ruby Johnson (Lowell); grandchildren, Cristina Ponder (Dalton Guthrie), Baylee Hensley, Raelynn Hensley and Peyton Fillers and a great grandson, River Guthrie.

A funeral service will be held 11:00 AM Thursday, July 18, 2024, at Robbie Capps Memorial Chapel of Blue Ridge Funeral and Cremation Service. Rev. Paul Norton will officiate. The burial will follow in the Stackhouse Cemetery. The family will receive friends 6:00-8:00 PM Wednesday, July 17, 2024.
