Norma "Jean" Proffitt Ammons, age 82, passed away on Saturday January 6, 2024. She was born on August 7, 1941 in Madison County, to the late Brank Ray Proffitt and Bessie Arrington Proffitt.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Bruce Owen "Jim" Ammons; daughter, Georgia "Leigh" Ellison; son-in-law, Terry Waldrop; brothers, Harvey and Harlan Proffitt; a sister-in-law, Hazel Proffitt; and a grandson, Cody McElroy.

Left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Teleda Waldrop (Mark Shook), and Teresa Worley (Harold); sons, Jimmy Ammons (Beth), and Jeffrey Ammons (April); sister-in-law, Mabel Proffitt; grandchildren, Amanda Coffey (Charles), Hannah, Kyle (Nathan), and Tanner Ellison (Molly), Jason (Krystal), Patrick (Haley), and Adam Worley (Lauren), Chase, Cade (JoAnn), Madison, and Ireland Ammons, Caleb (Rachel), and Gabriel Waldrop, Baliey (Darryl), and Alexis Ammons (Kevin), Kristen Gilliam (Jason), and Brandon Ellison (Meagan); 12 great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held at 12:00 noon on Thursday January 11, 2024, in the Robbie Capps Memorial Chapel of Blue Ridge Funeral Service. Brother Eddie Fox will officiate. Burial will follow in the Mars Hill Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
