It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Oliver Dean Honeycutt, beloved husband, father, grandpa, and brother. He passed away peacefully into the arms of Jesus and surrounded by his family on February 12, 2025 at the age of 77. Oliver was born on November 27, 1947 in Madison County, NC. He was a cherished member of the Upper Laurel Community.
Oliver is preceded in death by his mother, Edna Bryan Honeycutt; father, Clay Honeycutt; stepmother, Vertie Shook Honeycutt; and brother, James Honeycutt of Madison County.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 56 years, Betty W. Honeycutt; children, Jenny, and Jonathan Honeycutt (Meggie); grandchildren, Grace and Andrew Honeycutt; and sister, Naomi Honeycutt Willis (Ophard).
Oliver served in the Army as a Sergeant for two years in Germany, after being drafted during the Vietnam war. He then worked as a dedicated phone company technician for Contel, Verizon, and then Frontier. He was known and trusted as a professional all over Madison and Buncombe Counties and beyond. Oliver was a true friend to everyone he met and will be greatly missed.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm, Sunday, February 16, 2025, in Upper Laurel Baptist Church with Reverend Cline Junior Hensley. officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 – 2:00 pm prior to the service at the church. Burial will follow in the Lower English Cemetery off Puncheon Fork Rd.
