Othella May Rice Ogle, age 80, of Marshall, went home to sing with Jesus on Friday, September 10, 2021, at Mission Hospital following a brief illness. She was a beloved Mother, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother, a retired educator, and a Christian.
Othella was born May 26, 1941, in Madison County, the daughter of the late Everett and Wavel Rice. She spent 36 years loving and teaching the children in the Madison County School System. She received numerous awards and recognitions during her teaching career.
She was a member of Walnut Missionary Baptist Church. Othella loved to love on people. She was a faithful woman who loved our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, her family, church, and community. She enjoyed cooking, canning, gardening, and spending time with her friends and family. While raising her five children, Othella completed her bachelor's degree in Education at Mars Hill College and her master's degree at Western Carolina University.
Including her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Lane Ogle, a daughter Kimberly Brigman, a sister, Golda Noblitt, and a brother James Van Rice.
Those left to cherish and honor her memory include four sons, James Brigman and wife Robin, of Wake Forest, John Brigman and wife Sandra of Marshall, Wayne Brigman and wife Laura of Mars Hill and Daniel Brigman and wife Cindy of Newland; grandchildren, Grayson Brigman, Davis Brigman, Tyler Brigman, Lauren Ramsey, Blake Brigman, Kelsey Brigman, Demi Brigman, Dylan Brigman, Evan Brigman, Landon Brigman, and Emily Brigman; great-grandchildren, Braxton Brigman, Rayden Ramsey, Brodie Ramsey; sisters, Rozella Ramsey and Dora Ann Rice, Karen Buff; brothers, McClelland Rice and Harlon Rice; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, September 12, 2021, at 3:00 pm in the Robbie Capps Memorial Chapel of Blue Ridge Funeral Service, Mars Hill, NC. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. The family kindly asks that you wear masks and practice social distancing.
