Heaven gained an Angel when Otto "Wayne" Smith, 88, went to be reunited with his beloved wife, Lillian Forester Smith, November 4, 2015 at Mission Hospital. He was a native of Madison County and the son of the late McKinley and Flossie Reese Smith. Mr. Smith was a member of Old Bull Creek Baptist Church. In addition to his parents and wife he is preceded in death by his sisters, Edna Paugh and Wanda Reed; brothers, Henry, Bert, Willard, Howard, Jack and Rex Smith.
Wayne is survived by a daughter Sandy Smith of Mars Hill; sister, Juanita Roberts of Weaverville; granddaughter, Michele Austin, of Mars Hill; great granddaughter, Taylor Austin; great-great grandson, Conner Wayne Austin and more nieces and nephews than can be counted.
A funeral service will be held 2:00pm Saturday, November 7, at Robbie Capps Memorial Chapel of Blue Ridge Funeral Service. Brother Eddie Fox and Reverend Worth Emory will officiate. The burial will follow in the Old Bull Creek Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends 12:00-2:00pm prior to the service.
