Paul Pritchard Briggs Jr., 78, of Mars Hill, passed away Tuesday, May 21, 2024. He was born on Wednesday, March 13, 1946, and the son of the late Paul Pritchard Briggs, Sr. and Elezene Elizabeth English Briggs. Paul was a native of Madison County and served in the US Army Reserve for six years. He was a graduate of Mars Hill High School and Wilson Technical Institute of Raleigh, he also attended Mars Hill College and was the owner and operator of Paul Briggs Trucking, Inc.

In addition to his parents, Paul is preceded in death by his son, Paul Pritchard Briggs, III, and his sister, Revelle.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Rita Foxx Briggs; daughter, Lynn Briggs Austin (Barry); daughter-in-law, Hollie Morgan (Matthew); grandson, Sage Austin, granddaughter Bristol Briggs; step grandson, Ridge Morgan; a sister, Pauline Carr (Frank Sr.); brother-in-law, Randy Foxx (Lana); and a nephew, niece, cousins, and lifelong friends.

A funeral service will be held at 11am Friday, May 24, 2024, at Mars Hill Baptist Church, of which he was a lifelong member. Rev. Dr. Tommy Justus and Rev. Jerry Shelton will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5-7pm Thursday at the church.
