Polly Harris Gentry, 85, passed away on Monday, July 13, 2026, after a brief illness. She was a native of Buncombe County and the daughter of the late Rev. James Grady and Lena Mae Lovingood Harris. She is preceded in death by a son, Eric Daniel Gentry, a sister, Betty Rollins, and three brothers, Jimmie, Tony, and J.P. Harris.

Polly was a faithful servant to the Lord, and a longtime member of Mt. Sheba Baptist Church, where she faithfully taught Sunday school, vacation bible school, and sang in the church choir for many years.

Polly is survived by her husband of 68 years, Luther "Tate" Gentry; two daughters, Melody Barlow (Brian), and Kim Wilson (Duane); sister, Hattie Lawson, brother, Robert Harris; grandchildren, Jordan and Madison Barlow, and Samantha and Matthew Wilson; and several nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held at 12pm Thursday, July 16, 2026, at Mt. Sheba Baptist Church. Reverend Steve Rhinehart will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Polly's memory to Mt. Sheba Baptist Church, 870 New Stock Rd., Weaverville, NC 28787.
