Richard Nelson McCurry, age 90, of Asheville, passed away on May 19, 2024 at CarePartners Hospice Center. Richard was born on August 14, 1933, in Buncombe County to the late George Nelson and Rhoma Brown McCurry.

In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife, Joan Randall McCurry; daughter, Janet McCurry Henderson; sister, Judith "Judy" Almon; and grandsons, Paul Randall (PJ) McCurry and Jordan Hunter McCurry.

Richard retired from the NCDHHS as a case administrator for the services for the blind. He was a US Navy Veteran serving during the Korean War. Richard attended Calvary Baptist Church in Asheville and was involved with the Lions Club.

Richard is survived by his sons, Jeff McCurry (Vicki), and Paul McCurry; grandchildren, Alicia McCurry Knight (David), Jamie Henderson and Jonathan Henderson; four great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday June 1, 2024, in Green Hills Cemetery, Asheville. Reverend Rendell Hipps will officiate.
