MARS HILL: Robert Lee "Bob" Carter, 73, of 6132 US Hwy. 23, passed away Thursday, February 10, 2011. He was a native of Madison County and a son of Robbie Carter Anderson and the late Vaughan Carter. Bob was employed with Madison County Health Department and later with the Buncombe County Adult Services. He gained the attention of the state division of health services regulations and became well known to all state agencies and area mental health programs as a state expert in regulatory and licensure issues. He was a US Army Veteran.

In addition to his mother he is survived by a daughter, Sybil Carter, son, David Carter and wife Kathy, sister, Ruth Lennon and husband Max, brother, Ray Carter and Gladys Lance all of Mars Hill, grandchildren; Matt, Derek and Laura Carter, Robert Travis Hensley and Samuel Parton, great grandchildren; Rindie, Chloe, Brody and Jaxon Carter, Addison and Skyler Coates and his beloved dog "Daisy".

The funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, February 12, 2011 at California Creek Baptist Church where he was the choir director which he loved dearly for over thirty years. Rev. Josh McDevitt will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be; Travis Hensley, Matt, Derek and Roy Carter, Arnold Dean and Cory Connors. Mars Hill VFW Post #5483 will conduct military graveside rites. The family will receive friends from 12:30 – 2:00 PM at the church. At other times the family will be at the home of Robbie Anderson.
