Shelby Jean Ramsey Metcalf, 87, of Mars Hill, NC, passed away peacefully on April 14, 2026. She was the daughter of the late Claude and Eunice Carver Ramsey. She was a lifelong resident of Madison County and worked at Hammarlund early in her career and later retired from Honeywell (Micro Switch), where she and her beloved husband Earl worked together for many years.

Shelby enjoyed gardening, baking (especially her black walnut pound cake), bowling on many leagues and frequent trips to Gatlinburg, TN, where she loved to shop. She was a great friend to many and a loving mother and mother-in-law.

Shelby is preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Billy Earl Metcalf, infant son Joey Metcalf, brother Calvin Ramsey, and sister Willie Zene Ramsey.

Shelby is survived by her son, Michael Metcalf (Lisa) and brother Harlon Ramsey (Jeraldine), as well as several nieces and nephews, all of Mars Hill.

A funeral service will be held at 2pm Monday, April 20, 2026, at Robbie Capps Memorial Chapel of Blue Ridge Funeral & Cremation Service. Reverends Cline Junior Hensley and Kermit Ball will officiate. Burial will follow in the Divide Cemetery.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
